Under Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings , click Change settings. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the domain password or provide confirmation.

To join an existing workgroup, type the name of the workgroup that you want to join, and then click OK. To create a workgroup, type the name of the workgroup that you want to create, and then click OK. Your computer will be removed from the domain and your computer account on that domain will be disabled.

This section provides access to procedures and information that will help you install the Connector software, connect your computer to the server, and troubleshoot connecting computers to the server. For all other computers, first create a network user account on the server by using the Dashboard. Create the user account with Administrator or Standard user privileges, based on the tasks that are performed by the person using the computer.

If your computer is running Windows 8, Windows 8. Friday, September 18, AM. According to the chart listed on this Microsoft Technet post, it’s not clear to me if this connector works on Essentials or just the R2 version. Friday, September 18, PM. It does say “download software for windows 7 and windows 8” – but nothing else. Assuming the same command was working from my Windows 10 Professional machine again, physically attached to the domain via ethernet and getting great IP traffic , what should happen if everything is working correctly?

After all, I wouldn’t download the windows 7 or 8 connector software from the server? That may not be what you are finding, but it is accurate. Yes, the connector software on the Server supports Windows 10 fully.

Matt, I see you started another thread here, good. We’ve almost go this working – here’s what we found: You can get Windows 10 Professional to connect to Server Essentials non R2 if you point the clients DNS address to the IP address of the server. You also have to add a line to the registry to make this happen.

Once you connect to the Server you are shown the screenshot I posted above – asking you to “download the software for windows 7 and 8” – which is confusing since you’re connecting a Windows 10 machine.

Microsoft admitted this was confusing and said this would be addressed in a future update We still don’t have everything working correctly – which may be related to the fact that I installed the Connector R2 software on my computer.
